Koh Madsum Island Pig Island

Koh Madsum is an unforgettable adventure to an enchanting tropical gem located just off the southern shores of Koh Samui, Island Thailand. Our tours depart from the pristine Lamai or Lipa Noi Beaches, where your journey into paradise begins.

The Island

Koh Madsum, often referred to as 'Pig Island,' is a place of unique wonder. Here, wild boars and their playful offspring roam freely, providing an exceptional opportunity for an educational and immersive experience, especially for children. As you approach the island, you'll be greeted by the sight of Koh Madsum's most beautiful beaches, stretching as far as the eye can see. Unlike crowded tourist spots, this beach is not cluttered with sun loungers, tables and chairs, allowing you to bask in the island's natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. Seek shade beneath the swaying palms or savour local beer and delicious home-cooked Thai cuisine at the island's restaurants and bars. Explore the island with a leisurely walk along the spectacular beach, and let the tranquil calm of the surroundings confirm that you've truly arrived in paradise.

The Pigs and Wildlife

The island's nickname, 'Pig Island,' becomes evident as you step onto the beach and hear the grunting of the island's pig inhabitants. The pigs are uninterested in visiting tourists unless they come bearing food, living up to the "Greedy Pig" name. However, don't worry about your lunch they won’t steal from you they will hang around hoping for whatever you want to offer. These amiable creatures provide an amusing and endearing presence on the island, and visitors can purchase food packets for a mere 10 baht to feed the pigs and contribute to their well-being. But the island's charm extends beyond its piggy residents. Chickens, goats, a dog, and a variety of birds can be found amidst the lush greenery. With some luck, you might even visit during the arrival of a new litter of piglets. These island animals are well-cared for by the locals and enjoy the additional treats provided by curious tourists.

Snorkelling

For snorkelling enthusiasts, Koh Madsum's warm tropical waters offer a diverse marine ecosystem, featuring angel fish, needle fish, and barracuda. Explore the protected coral and reefs within these inviting waters, and discover a different aspect of this real tropical paradise. Keep in mind that the underwater world may vary depending on the time of year you visit.

Locals

Koh Madsum is home to approximately forty residents who lead a simple, traditional life. The island's electricity is generated by generators, and Wi-Fi is a rarity. The locals receive supplies from Samui via visiting tourist boats. They also sustain themselves through the island's bountiful natural resources, creating an inviting atmosphere of warm Thai hospitality and welcoming smiles.
